 White Cliffs / Dover
A lighthouse has stood on the South Foreland for hundreds of years. The current tower was built by Sir James Walker in 1843 to protect ships from the Goodwin Sands just off shore. The radio pioneer Guglielmo Marconi made the world's first ship store and international wireless transmissions from here in 1898 and 1899.
